See the statistics regarding CASTRO VALLEY youth use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Students in grades 5, 7, 9, and 11 participate in a survey every 2 years called the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). Every school district in California is required to conduct the survey in order to comply with the No Child Left Behind Act, Title IV. The results monitor progress toward promoting youth well being and student success.
In 2009 Castro Valley 23% of 11th graders reported using alcohol in the last 30 days which is down 9% from 2007.
13% of our 11th grade students reported that they engaged in “binge drinking” in the last 30 days (5 or more drinks in a row or within a very short time period).
